STONE FLOOR GRINDING/LIPPAGE/HONING
Grinding (leveling) is the process in which the surface is aggressively sanded to remove large stocks of the Stone. This process is recommended when stone tiles are uneven or have Lippage issues."Lippage" is the term given to uneven tiles that are set higher than one another.
Honing is the process of smoothing the stone with the use of abrasives and water. Honing will remove scratches and round the edges of the stone giving a smoother finish to the edge, however it will not remove lippage.
There are some very good reasons for grinding a stone floor flat. A flat floor is much easier to maintain, since there will be no lips where dirt can accumulate. A completely flat floor eliminates all unevenness, giving the floor the illusion of being Monolithic (one piece).
Destin Premier has the experience and technical knowledge to identify and solve stone issues, including Lippage, scratched and etched to water marked stone.
TOPICAL SEALER REMOVAL
In some cases,a foreign topical sealer may have previously been applied to your floors causing a build-up that must be removed before we are able to proceed forward in polishing your stone floors. Removal of this sealer requires professional knowledge and training. This labor is an additional step and cost in the restoration process.
